THEME: THE ART OF LISTENING

In recent decades we have rapidly replaced natural sounds and supplemented them with sounds that have a function for us. Our perception of the world is subconsciously filled with artificial sound. Artificial sounds are designed for commercial purposes, such as beeps at the self-scan checkout or the coffee machine. These sounds are useful; they confirm to us that something works and can influence our behaviour. What if we delete all these sounds and rebuild them from silence? Can we shape a future in which we approach sound in a playful way, without commercial interest? What sounds would you use? How do we experience the world then?

THE SOUND OF CHANGE

Spacemakers x Absent Chronicles present their project 'The Sound of Change' in De Heuvel in Eindhoven, where visitors reflect on the role of sound in our daily lives. Their presentation consists of two parts: an immersive timeline of sound and an interactive experience that gives you the space to discover for yourself! In the first part of the exhibition you will be confronted with the development of sounds through the millennia. The second part is filled with abstract shapes. What these forms are supposed to represent is not clear at first glance. You will find out in an interactive and playful way what is happening in this room and as a result you will slowly become aware of the essence of artificial sounds in our daily lives.
